Your Cave Is Not Your Covering

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy!

I look to You for protection.

I will hide beneath the shadow of Your wings

until the danger passes by.

Psalm 57:1 (NLT)

King David wrote these words while facing real and present danger. He was not speaking in theory; he was hiding in a cave, fleeing from Saul, pursued by the very establishment that once celebrated him. His life was under threat.

Yet in the middle of the drama, David did not put his ultimate trust in the cave. He looked to God for protection. The cave was his temporary shelter — but the Lord was his true refuge.

He uses beautiful imagery, such as helpless chicks hiding beneath their mother's wings, safe from predators and storms. That is how David saw his relationship with God — not distant, but close; not theoretical, but protective and personal.

As believers, we have the same assurance. Whatever “cave” season we may find ourselves in, our real safety is not in circumstances, but under the shadow of God’s wings. The danger may be real, but so is His covering.

Hide there. Rest there. Trust there.

Have a fantastic weekend.
